Stealing Mercury - Book Review

I love when authors reach out to me.  It's always exciting to know that they are looking at my blog, or found me some how.  Charlee Allden dropped me and email asking if I would be interested in reading her two books.  I quickly read the blurbs and was hooked!  I love anything to do with space and sex.  Both "S" words, I guess that's what does it for me!  The possibility of aliens out there and a potential way off this planets seems pretty appealing some days - like today!!  Especially after meeting Mercury, Diablo, and Carn.  Beam me up Scotty!

I have a major crush on Diablo even though he is a minor character, yes I love Mercury, but it was the deep brooding Diablo that captured me.

For 99cents this book is a steal!  It will be available on 5/11, you can preorder right now.   This took me less than 24 hours to read, because I just couldn't put it down.  Take the chance.  Hot alpha males, hot sex, M/F, M/F/M.

How is it that I'm the first person to leave a review for this book too?  You don't know what you are missing that's for sure!

Born a slave, Mercury is an Arena Dog, genetically engineered to fight and die in the Arena for the entertainment of others. Trained as a gladiator from boyhood in a violent world, where men must form alliances and share what little bounty they have to survive, his only goal has been to keep his men alive. But two are dead and the rest are condemned to be hunted down and killed for sport. Worse, their demise will leave a woman Mercury has sworn to protect, alone and vulnerable. And then there is Samantha—a courageous human he has no right to claim. But she is his. He feels it deep in his soul and with an ache in his body he can’t deny.

Samantha Devlin is an indie-freight pilot who has lost everything: her ship, her crew, and her father. When an old friend hires her as an emergency replacement to pilot a cargo carrier for the Roma Company, she’s shocked to learn her cargo is three, living, breathing, and dangerously sexy Arena Dogs. When Samantha learns she’s taking the men to their deaths, she must decide is she if willing to risking everything for a man whose customs require that he share her with one of his men and demands he return to Roma to protect another woman. Mercury, their leader, and Lo, his emotionally broken arena-brother, challenge all her notions of honor, loyalty, and love. Her heart tells her Mercury is worth any cost, but her head sees nothing ahead but disaster.

4.5 Stars

Samantha is offered a job running special cargo to another port.  Little does she know that the special cargo are genetically modified humanoids being sent to their death.  When she finds out, she knows that she can't let this happen.  There is something about Mercury, the leader of the trio that calls to her.   One is very sick from abuse and a broken heart.  She needs to help them be free. But can she?  Will she risk everything to save Mercury, Diablo, and Carn from uncertain death?

Samantha hatches a plan that will help the trio escape, but when the handlers find out things get out of hand.  Will Mercury and Samantha ever see each other again?  Will they survive?   Taking the risk Samantha proceeds with her plan.  Carn needs to get back to Roma, the Arena planet and find his mate, Hera.  Risking everyone life, but Hera is his mate, they need to be together.  Or Carn will surely die.  Thing heat up between Samantha and Mercury, causing the Mercury to rise in more ways then one.

The character building in this book is amazing.  You learn about Samantha and her background, how she became the way she is and why.  You also learn about the trio of men and how they came to be and why.  Ms. Allden creates a very cool world that evolves and surrounds you, almost like you are there.  The rich port of Haverlee, the Arena, and the uninhabited planet they land on.  All place that sound real.

Can't wait for book #2 in the series!!

Here are my choices for Sam, Mercury, Diablo, and Carn

  • “With seamless writing, a thrilling plot, lots of engaging science puzzles, and remarkable characterization, Peterfreund's exciting tale keeps the adventure solidly in the foreground. Young readers looking for a page turning quest should get into this planned series on the ground floor." — Booklist *Starred* Review

"Peterfreund's focus on character development is complemented by the equal attention she gives to the vast underground city itself. Gillian’s instincts to protect her friends and clear her historian father’s tarnished name are admirable, but Peterfreund gives every character the opportunity to grow, revealing themselves for who they really are."— Publishers Weekly

“Peterfreund’s boundless imagination takes on a new and exciting adventure!” – Jessica Day George, New York Times Bestselling author of Tuesdays at the Castle”

Dance to an Irish Reel

Dancing To An Irish Reel - Banner

TITLE – Dancing to an Irish Reel AUTHOR – Claire Fullerton GENRE – Literary Fiction PUBLICATION DATE – March 17, 2015 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) - 222 PUBLISHER – Vinspire Publishing COVER ARTIST – Leanne for By the Muse Designs

Twenty five year old Hailey Crossan takes a trip to Ireland during a sabbatical from her job in the LA record business. While there, she’s offered a job too good to turn down, so she stays.
Although Hailey works in Galway, she lives in the countryside of Connemara, a rural area famous for its Irish traditional music.  When Hailey meets local musician, Liam Hennessey, a confusing relationship begins, which Hailey thinks is the result of differing cultures, for Liam is married to the music, and so unbalanced at the prospect of love, he won't come closer nor completely go away.
And so begins the dance of attraction that Hailey struggles to decipher. Thankfully, a handful of vibrant local friends come to her aid, and Hailey learns to love a land and its people, both with more charm than she ever imagined.
DancingtoanIrishReel2 500x750 (1)[1]

There’s an energy that hangs between strangers even in a crowd. Call it interest, or attraction, or the knowledge of things to come. It is awareness, and I was aware to the exclusion of all activity around me that Liam Hennessey was watching me. He was sitting at the corner of the bar by himself, and because I could feel his gaze upon me like an electrical current, I froze. I did not move an inch because I sensed I didn’t have to, that something would come about with little prompting from me. I don’t know how I knew this, but I was right, it came about within the hour. It began as a series of introductions to people near Liam, and drew itself closer until Liam was introduced to me.
Right before Leigh left, claiming she had to get up early the next day to drive to Cork, Kieran pointed out that the Irish traditional musicians playing in the corner were the father and older brother of the lad sitting at the end of the bar.
“That’s Liam Hennessey at the bar there,” Kieran gestured to my right. “He’s the best box player in Connemara – even in the whole of Ireland, many say. His family is long in Connemara; they’re all players, so. That’s Sean Liam, his da, and his brother Anthony there on the guitar.” Kieran seemed proud to know the facts. He next took my arm and led me straight to Liam.
“I’ve the pleasure of knowing this American here, her name is Hailey,” Kieran announced to Liam.
I had an uneasy feeling. It’s one thing to suspect you’ll cross paths with someone again, and quite another to be fully prepared when it actually happens. For some unknown reason, I kept thinking it was strange to see Liam this far out in the country from Galway, but then again, what did I know? I didn’t know anything about him.
Liam looked at me with large dark eyes and smiled brightly. He was different than I had imagined: he was friendlier, more candid. I assumed because he looked so dark and mysterious, there would be a personality to match. I assumed he would be reserved, aloof, perhaps arrogant in an artistic sort of way. I was paying close attention, and there was none of that about Liam. In seconds, I realized he was a nice guy. I moved a step to my right as an older man approached the bar.
“Would ye give us a hand there,” the man said to Liam, and for the next few minutes, Liam handed pints over his head to a group of men too far from the bar’s edge to grab the glasses themselves. Just then, Kieran said something that set off a chain of events and put the rest of the night in motion.
“Liam, will you watch Hailey for me, I’m off to join the sessiun.” With that, Kieran produced a harmonica from his shirt pocket and walked off to join the musicians in the corner.
I stood at the bar and waited for the next thing to happen. The world seemed to operate in slow motion. All the noise in the room subsided, and the only thing I knew was I was looking directly at Liam Hennessey. I searched his face for imperfections. I had never before seen such beauty in the face of a man. I hoped my thoughts didn’t show on my face. He was so good looking, I wondered why other people in the room weren’t staring at him, then I realized most of Hughes’ patrons knew him and were probably used to the way he looked. I was reticent, unsure of how to speak to Liam, unfamiliar with how provincial he may or may not have been. Words tend to get in the way in moments like this, but they lay in wait just the same.

Luca - Book Review

I won Luca in a Giveaway!  I'm so glad.  It was a good book.  With some hot moments.  Here is a little teaser to get your motor running.  This book came out on April 6th, so just a few days ago.  The buy links are below the book cover.

“Anger is like a thorn in the heart...the roar of my courage and the cold sweat of my fear.” ~Luca

Pyromania is an impulse control disorder [1] in which individuals repeatedly fail to resist impulses to deliberately start fires, [1] in order to relieve tension or for instant gratification.

Damon Luca, or Luca as they called him. I thought of him more as Damien, the fucking devil within these walls that now is my life. Dark, broody, and deadly to any woman. Mind-blowing, soul-shaking, raw sex appeal. He was a tall statured boy with broad shoulders and a pair of green eyes that set my soul on fire. His inky black hair framed his hard, chiseled features. He had the type of body that had no business being on a seventeen-year-old. I knew that once he fully developed, he'd be nothing short of drop-dead gorgeous. As I said...deadly on the eyes...and dangerous for your heart.

My name is Allison. I met Luca through an unfortunate event when we were younger. I’m now twenty-four, and this is my story. My fucked up life. It's not a pretty one. Then again, the most interesting ones aren't...are they? This isn't your usual love story. Anything but. There are no blue skies, rainbows, or unicorns. Only him...my own personal arsonist. He had the ability to set my panties on fire, leave my body smoldering, and turn my heart into burning embers. He scared the hell out of me, made me feel. He opened my eyes to the world of twisted love. But love no less. This scary, beautiful man stole my heart from a young, tender age and refused to give it back. Here’s our story…

This story is deep, dark, and deals with real scars and growth because of them.

4 Stars

Allison and Luca meet in a rehabilitation center.  He knows right away that she is his.  He goes out of his way to find and introduce himself to her.  But he is careful with her, protective if you will.  Then Allison reveals to Luca why she is there.  Things change.  Ollie is there to help Allison pick up the pieces when Luca bolts without a goodbye.  But is Ollie enough for Allison?  Or will she forever be Luca's?

Fast forward several years.  Ollie and Allison are still friends and are adults now.   With grown up issues and problems.  But nothing that they can't face.  But this friendship is held together by Ollie's belief that one day Allison will be his, when she forgets all about her past.  But Allison still clings to it.  Will the past come back and open up old wounds?

The first half of the book I was enthralled with.  I couldn't put it down, I was in love with Luca, Ollie, and Allison.  I secretly wished Allison would fall for Ollie, not Luca.  I just felt like Luca was going to use her and crush her.  The second half of the book, I was annoyed with Allison for her actions, holding on to things that hurt.  She learned how to deal with her past, why didn't she use that?  I guess I wanted her to grow up.

This book does end in a cliff hanger.  And if I was holding a book I would have tossed it across the room.  But since I held my Kindle, I turned it off and mulled it over in brain what just happened and why?!

Children of The Mark - Book Review

AJ Scott is a typical teenager. The only thing he wants to do is survive high school. Clair Anderson and Dougie Edwards have been his friends since the third grade. The teens stumble across a bizarre ritual and their night of adventure quickly turns to panic as they witness the culmination of the Cult of the Elder’s attempt to pull a monstrous deity from the netherworld into our world. A hasty escape leaves the teens terrified and AJ marred from the event. His newfound malady proves to be much more than a simple mark and the trio are pulled into a world of deceit, monsters, and old fashioned horror.

4Stars -

I've read for Mr. Garza before and LOVE his books. Anything having to do with a cult and the Elder's freak me out! I love it!

This a great YA book, not to gory, not to overly flashy. Just enough to let your imagination run wild! This is a story about 3 school friends who venture into a warehouse and stumble upon a cult. Something happens to AJ and he can now see things the other can't. When the cult becomes involved with AJ's family, things start to get sticky. They need to take care of this, quickly and quietly.

Could this be the end for AJ? What about Claire and Dougie? Will they survive the cult?

I like the flow of this book, yes there were slow parts - to much talking between the 3 characters about what they were going to do next. But it didn't take away from the story. I read this book in two days, because I'd get freaked out, have to put it down, but it kept whispering my name to pick it up and read more. I did! I couldn't leave it alone, I needed to know what was going to happen.

I would think this book is for a high school kid or older. There aren't bad horrible language, just some freaky stuff going on! Obviously adults enjoy it too.

Do you know what that stands for?

Go ahead and guess!  I dare you.

I’m not talking about computer logic, even though I could, but not now.  I’ll save that for a day when you are really bored out of your gourd!

No, it’s not Drake N Future.

As in I did not finish that book.  UGH!  I’m not a fan of DNF books.  Usually I can push through and finish, leave the review and quickly forget about the book.  But a DNF hangs over my head.

I don’t have many of these, but there are a few.  I even have a shelf on my GoodReads account for those unfortunate books.  It doesn’t even matter that some are in my genre of choice.  My DNF are like a disease, no rhyme or reason.  They can strike out of the blue.
Do I feel bad about them?  I used too, but then I realized that I can’t love all books.  That some books, characters, and plots aren’t for everyone.   I’ve embraced it now and I move on quickly with a quick slip to the DNF shelf and onto the next book.  Hoping that, this new book will over power that bitter taste I have in my mouth.  I pray to the Book Gods and start reading my new book.  Sometimes it works and sometimes, I just need to walk away and take a few days off from reading.

Labor Day - Book Review

Awhile I ago I watched the movie Labor Day with Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, be still my heart!  I was vaguely aware that the movie was based on a book, but never read the book.  I must say I loved the movie as much as I loved the book.  The book was so haunting, that it took me awhile to read, because I didn't want to rush it.  I wanted to cradle it and respect it like it deserved.

It felt good to hold a book in my hands, run my finger tips over the pages and think about who read the book before me.  Yes, I got it 2nd  hand.  Did they love the book as much as I did?  I sure hope so!

For company Henry has his long-divorced mother, Adele — a onetime dancer whose summer project was to teach him how to foxtrot; his hamster, Joe; and awkward Saturday-night outings to Friendly's with his estranged father and new stepfamily. As much as he tries, Henry knows that even with his jokes and his "Husband for a Day" coupon, he still can't make his emotionally fragile mother happy. Adele has a secret that makes it hard for her to leave their house, and seems to possess an irreparably broken heart.

But all that changes on the Thursday before Labor Day, when a mysterious bleeding man named Frank approaches Henry and asks for a hand. Over the next five days, Henry will learn some of life's most valuable lessons: how to throw a baseball, the secret to perfect piecrust, the breathless pain of jealousy, the power of betrayal, and the importance of putting others — especially those we love—above ourselves. And the knowledge that real love is worth waiting for.

Henry and his mom, Adele live on the fringe of town.  After Henry's dad left and life changed, Adele kind of went into herself.  Rarely if ever did they leave the house or have company.  One fateful summer day in September changed all that.  At the local Pricemart, a kindly stranger forced himself on the family.  He needed a ride, but it ends up as so much more.  Adele and Henry save Frank as much as Frank saves Henry and Adele.  It's not the best of situations to meet, but you make the most of a situation.

This book is told by Henry, a teen on the cusp of puberty and the life before him.  He does everything he can for his mom, Adele to cheer her up.  But he soon realizes that the one thing he can't give her if the one thing that she needs the most.  Another adult.   When Frank comes along, it's a hidden blessing for Henry and Adele.  But they don't realize it.

I fell in love with Frank. Yeah, he's a criminal, but he's also a human being and until you hear both sides you can't pass judgment.  Sometimes the past is just that, the past.   Let go of it, learn from it, and live in the present.

“Clothes off and prepare to be searched.” His voice is warm, lush, and filled with sensual promise. But I am oh so aware that, dominant as he is, he’s mindful of my issue with being undressed. A warm, fluttery feeling spreads from my belly, beating back the memories.
“Help me.”
And he does. His hands over my hands, we slide my shirt and bra up and over my head, his fingers tangling with mine, caressing my body as I am bared for his pleasure. When we get to my shoulders, I raise my arms and Ray takes over. Slow and sensual, his fingers glide over my skin, filling me with the sensation of his touch. When he reaches my hands, he yanks the clothing over my head and tosses it to the floor with a victory growl.
“Back in position.” He smooths his hands down my arms and places my palms against the cool metal surface of the shop wall. And then he is everywhere, his hands roaming over my body, setting fire to my skin. When he has thoroughly touched and kissed every inch of my exposed skin, he tugs out my ponytail holder. My hair fans out across my back in a silken wave.
“Fuck. I love your hair.” He strokes his fingers through the strands. “Don’t put it up when you’re with me.”
“Guess that means I won’t be with you when I’m exercising or doing ink.” With a grin, I look back over my shoulder, but my smile fades at the intensity of his stare.
“You know what I do to girls who give me attitude?” He kicks my legs apart, then smooths his hand over my ass.
Desire, dark and delicious, curls through my body. “What do you do?”
His hand tightens, fingers digging into my flesh. “I spank them.”
I make a soft sound, deep in my throat. Morbid fascination, dan- gerous desire—everything I’ve imagined but never thought could be real, he offers with a brush of his fingertips. “I’ve never been spanked,” I whisper. “But I think I might like it.”
His deep, satisfied rumble pulses between my legs. “You’re gonna kill me, sayin’ things like that.” He circles my waist with his hands, his fingers lingering on the waistband of my jeans, skimming along the inside, his touch an erotic tickle that makes me writhe against him.
“Don’t move.”
“Then don’t do things that make me want to push you to the ground and tear off your clothes.”
He chuckles, amused. “We’ll get to that later. Right now, you’re taking off your jeans and I’m gonna help you, like last time.”
With a vicious tug, he reaches around and opens the zipper, then positions my hands on my hips and covers them with his palms, guiding me as I push down my jeans. Although he is working around my trigger, he is still totally in control, and I tremble, overwhelmed with the knowledge that for the first time, I can have what I want without the past getting in the way.
He crouches beside me, offering his shoulder as I toe off my shoes and kick my jeans away. Then he licks his lips and barks, “Back to the wall.”
My mouth waters at his tone—low, commanding, authoritative. Intensely erotic. He is so unlike any man I have ever been with. I turn without thinking, curiosity overriding reticence and my fear of losing control.
Crouched in front of me, Ray glides his hands up my legs, his fingers drawing lazy circles over the sensitive skin of my inner thighs, turning my thoughts to the throbbing between my legs. Unable to resist, I run my hands through the soft fuzz on his head.
He looks up, his eyes hooded with desire, then stands, dwarfing me with his massive body. With one hand pressed against the wall beside me, he glides a finger along the edge of my silky red panties, his lips curling into a satisfied smile when I whimper.
“You like red panties?”
“I like what’s hidden by red panties.” His naughty finger glides over my mound, brushing over the thin slip of fabric covering my aching clit. My breath catches in my throat, and I arch my back and moan.
“You want more?” His voice rumbles in my ear as he slides his hand down to cup my sex.
He wraps one arm around my waist, pulling my body against him. Then he kicks my legs apart.
“Open for me.”

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sarah Castille worked and travelled abroad before trading her briefcase and stilettos for a handful of magic beans and a home near the Canadian Rockies. She writes contemporary erotic romance and romantic suspense featuring blazingly hot alpha heroes and the women who tame them.
